The time commitment for mentors is one hour, once a week for a year. There is flexibility with this, and it is up to the mentor and mentee to come up with a schedule that works for them. There are no set times or locations for the meet ups, these are also decided by the mentor and mentee themselves.

Yes, we only accept licensed K-6 educators (not exclusive to the state of Indiana) since this is the demographic we serve. You may be retired or not currently teaching, just as long as you have the license and the experience.

No, we don’t host or run our own summer camps. We make connections with many different summer camps to get our youth enrolled. We have several locations that offer partial or full scholarships for our youth to attend.

A general donation to WYAP can go towards any number of our services. This could include tuition for a youth to attend summer camp, payment for a mental health session for an uninsured or insured youth, or providing youth with tutoring sessions among other things.

Starting in 2024, we are not hosting our Yellow Tie Gala. We are pursuing other fundraising opportunities at the moment, which include our brand new “The Double” Walk/Run that launched in August 2024. Follow us on social media to keep up to date with any WYAP news and event information.

We have an annual Christine D. Brown Memorial Scholarship in honor of our beloved EIA who passed away in 2022. This scholarship is available to graduating seniors through age 25 who live in the Westfield Washington School District and are continuing their education. The scholarship is awarded in the Spring. Keep an eye on our social media to find out when the application is open. Visit the scholarship page to learn more information about the scholarship and its requirements.

There are many ways that you can get involved. If you are over 21+ with a clean background check, you can apply to become a mentor to one of our youth. If you are a licensed active or retired K-6 educator, you can apply to become a tutor for one of our youth. Another opportunity is by joining our Board of Directors. We know this is a huge time commitment, so if you are unavailable to make that year-round commitment, you could try joining one of our seasonal committees. Lastly, a financial contribution is also a great way to support WYAP. Your donation helps us continue to offer our services to our Westfield youth.
