When & Who may apply?
We typically recruit for our tutoring program starting in the Spring for the upcoming school year in the Fall. We are looking for:
- Licensed educators only (not limited to state of Indiana) who are licensed in the K-6 range for our program that focuses on literacy and math (note: we will accept retired educators or those not currently practicing – as long as you have the license and experience)
- If we still have a need, we may expand our recruitment of tutors to include IAs from Westfield Washington Elementary Schools or the Westfield Intermediate School
- Paid or Volunteer positions are available
- All applicants must have at least 21 yrs of age (adult) as we perform background checks for all applicants
What is the commitment and where will sessions take place?
There are approximately 14 sessions in semester one and 14 sessions in semester 2, meaning this is a year long commitment for the school year. Sessions will start in SEPT and end in MARCH (no sessions April or May). The sessions are one day a week Monday-Thursday after school at the Westfield Washington Public Library. There are no other locations or days these sessions may be held. There will be a set day and time that is arranged to keep these sessions consistent. The WWS calendar will be followed each year; shorter weeks with school out or WWS vacation break weeks will not be weeks that sessions will take place.
WYAP Tutoring Calendar for 2025-2026 School Year
As of Oct 2024, we currently projecting 27 total sessions for the 2025-2026 school year. Changes may be made to this document if there are WWS calendar changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
- The rate for the 2024-2025 school year is $40/session, and this may vary year to year. Paid tutors will receive their compensation at the end of each semester. Of course, we welcome volunteer tutors as well! This helps us ensure we are serving as many of our youth with this need as possible.
- Tutors need not prepare materials. We request that the student comes prepared, we make a teacher to tutor email connection for ongoing support, and we have purchased some learning aids too that are available for use at the library.
- IF tutors have the time, they may serve more than one student.
- Our focus is K-6 literacy (and ESL) and math.
- Background checks are required, with extended background checks for those willing to provide transportation for a youth, which is a high need.
I’m ready to apply!
Please note that you may begin your application at any point in the year, but we will not begin our communication with you until the spring before the upcoming school year. The application process has multiple parts (application, *student selection, background check, tutoring agreements, orientation) but if you are certain you’re ready to begin, feel free to complete the application.
*student selection is not yet available— closer to the spring, we will have you review our Sign Up Genius that lists a youth’s description and availability so that you’re signing up for a youth that has the same availability. (Example: 4th grade girl CRES- needs transportation from tutor- available Mons 4-7pm or Weds 4-6pm, no IEP, focus- Math over literacy)
