The Westfield Youth Assistance Program (WYAP) was the first of all of the Hamilton County Youth Assistance Programs. WYAP was founded in 2009, based on a successful program in Oakland County, Michigan. Former Mayor Andy Cook had just taken office and was doing ride-alongs with the Westfield Police Department when he saw a need for a preventative program for youth who were in danger of going down the wrong path and entering the juvenile justice system. With the help of Mayor Cook, the Hamilton County judges, and many other key players WYAP was formed to serve this need. WYAP has grown immensely since its inception in 2009, and has now expanded into every city in Hamilton County.
